(Overview)

Arc is a members’ running club that trains on a council athletics track in Bristol: road runners, track sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, and a junior squad on Saturdays. It had grown from a WhatsApp group to [X] members and needed to look like a club, not a training app.

Most running brands borrow the language of speed: slanted type, gradients, lightning. The club wanted the opposite, something that would sit comfortably on a 10-year-old’s first vest and on a masters runner’s race number.

Everything in the identity is taken from the track itself: the curve of the bend, the white lane lines, the numbered lanes and the clay colour of the surface.

Every mark comes from the track.

(System)

Two colours, one curve, eight numerals.

The identity runs on clay and cream, with ink for type. The arc can be cropped, repeated or used as a frame, but never rotated. That keeps it recognisable on a vest at 50 metres and on a phone at 2cm.

Session plans, results and race-entry posts use one shared template, so volunteer coaches can publish in the club style without design software.

(Kit & signage)

Kit is made by a UK supplier in a single colourway, with the arc printed in one colour, which keeps the minimum order low enough for a volunteer-run club. Juniors get the same vest as seniors.

Track-side boards for start lines, warm-up areas and the club hut are printed on composite panel and use the same lane numerals as the kit.

Outcome: membership grew from [X] to [Y] in the first season after launch.

The juniors ask for the vest before they ask about the sessions.

One colourway, one-colour print, so the minimum order suits a volunteer-run club. Juniors get the same vest as seniors.
